Creation Foundations

The first chapter of Genesis sets the stage for believing the rest of the Bible. It shows that:
God exists. The creation reveals the Creator. “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork” (Psa. 19:1). Paul wrote, “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse” (Rom. 1:20). Paul used this simple reasoning with the intellectuals at Athens (Acts 17:24-31). We should remember that as we teach people today.
Evolution is false. The Lord made plant life, land animals, sea creatures and birds of the air and caused them to multiply “according to their kind” (Gen. 1:11,12, 21, 24, 25). He made man out of the dust and woman from one of Adam’s ribs and told them to “be fruitful and multiply” (Gen. 1:28). Adam was “the first man” (I Cor. 15:45), not the result of evolution.
God worked miracles. Some say they believe in God but doubt the miracles in the Bible. They usually point to Balaam’s donkey talking to him, the parting of the Red Sea, or the great fish swallowing Jonah. We can understand how atheists use these examples (even though their case can be answered), but believers in God are not consistent when they say yes to God and no to His miracles. If God is the Creator as they affirm, and if He created the universe out of nothing as Hebrews 11:3 affirms, then it was a small thing for Him to have parted the Red Sea or to have caused the great fish to swallow Jonah.
Mankind is male and female. Genesis 1:27 says, “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created Him; male and female He created them.” When the Pharisees asked Jesus about divorce, He said, “But from the beginning of the creation He made them male and female” (Mark 10:6). This is God’s created order. It is natural. What we see today in the homosexual and transgender movement is unnatural. Paul said the Gentiles had turned away from God to idolatry and this perverted living. “For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due” (Rom. 1:26-27).
It is time to go back to the beginning and make sure we are teaching the fundamentals in our homes and churches.
