As a new year approaches, it is good for us to reset our thinking with some pointed verses:
“To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die” (Ecc. 3:1-2).
“One generation passes away, and another generation comes” (Ecc. 1:4).
“That which has been is what will be, that which is done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun” (Ecc. 1:9).
“The days of our lives are seventy years; and if by reason of strength they are eighty years, yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away” (Psa. 90:10).
“For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away” (James 4:14).
“Lord, make me to know my end, and what is the measure of my days, that I may know how frail I am” (Psa. 39:4).
“So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” (Psa. 90:12).
“It is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment” (Heb. 9:27).
“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is man's all. For God will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil” (Ecc. 12:13-14).
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble” (Matt. 6:34).
